Field Notes

Description:

Large furry pink caterpillar possibly a tussock moth. It has sewn three leaves togther to make itself a shelter.

Notes:

Confirmation as a tussock moth as its next molt (pic3,pic4) reveals its four sets of "toothbrush" bristles. It has now pupated into a loose bundle of spines and silk. Watch this space.
Update Feb 24. 2012 the female wingless moth emerged (see pic 5).

Update Feb 24. 2012 the female wingless moth finally emerged (see pic #5). Finally a successful upload This is not so helpful for the ID but has closed the chapter on this spotting.

Atul, this pink one confused me until it molted and confirmed itself as a tussock moth. I have not found an ID but hope a male emerges so I can determine its species by its wings.
