Field Notes

Description:

A northern Palawan tree squirrel munches a water rose apple. They emit an intermittent shrieking sound while safely clinging on the stem of a palm whenever a cat approaches them. Cats kill them when opportunity arises.

Habitat:

Stand of disturbed canary wood (Nauclea orientalis) with domesticated species of water rose apple (Szygium aqueum), mango (Mangifera indica), coconut (Cocos nucifera), and palm trees.

Taken using a Panasonic DMC-G3, f/5.6, 1/160 sec., ISO-160, 200 mm at 9:02 am.

Yup. It's tails up when it squeaks indeed. I'll prepare the video and upload the interesting behavior.
Cats in the wrong locations are a disaster. What a cute squirrel. I suppose it's tail pops up when it squeaks?
