Field Notes

Description:

Dense clusters of small, gray-black, globose ascomata, approximately 1 mm diameter; with rough walls; loosely attached to basal mycelium.
Asci cylindrical/clavate; 8-spored.
Ascospores arranged biseriately (in two rows), (22-)31-36 x 6-9 µm, ellipsoidal, curved, 3-septate with one median septum and two further ones towards the apices.

Habitat:

Growing on dead hardwood terminal branches; clusters approximately 3-4 inches long. On floodplain above Shoal Creek.
