Field Notes

Description:

These are the smallest chipmunks in North America.They have three dark lines on their back alternating with white stripes. Tails are a reddish brown and sides a brownish gray. Underparts are whitish.

Habitat:

I photographed this chipmunk in an open ponderosa forest, but they live in many habitats including sagebrush plains, deciduous forests, and mountain areas.
