flowers are showy, hanging in panicles

Habitat:

riverbanks, primary forest, at low and medium altitude

Notes:

endemic to Philippines,more than 100 endemic species present (Merill 1923-1926); under Family MELASTOMATACEAE; genus named in honor of Jose Medinilla y Pineda, governor of Marianas Island in 1820.
