Field Notes
Description:
Diamondback rattlesnakes are common this time of year in Southern California. I have to always be aware of your surroundings, I was in 4 ft tall grass when I came across this one they love to Slither out mid morning and find a place in the tall grass, under a log, on top of rocks for the morning sunshine.
Habitat:
I find their habits to be predictable because there ectothermic, it means they can't regulate their body temperature. they love to come out onto the rocks into the summer months, They also love to hide under rocks around Lakes and streams. I've found myself On three occasions as a young boy turned over rocks where baby Rattlers were sitting directly in front of me and I almost didn't see them.
Notes:
I find it healthy to read up on their habits and behaviors when I'm out mushroom hunting or foraging for certain kinds of edible plants that I like for medicinal purposes.
