I have seen the plant grow without bump and I'm sure it has nothing to do with the bump but the bump is still growing and it almost 1 month i am waiting for it to shoot...thanks for the information!! :)
Unless you can actually see the shoot coming directly out of the ground, it sounds like they should be the same plant. I know you said they are separate but it looks so much like an upside down Amorphophallus tuber and they always put out roots from the top, around the shoot......The other possibility is that there is a tuber underground and this one has been dug up by something and is starting to root, in which case another shoot should curve around and start growing upwards at some point. Have a look at this young A.titanum tuber the right way up, with roots and young shoot (scroll down the page a little): http://www.tindaraorchids.com/rare-plants.htm
benda yang berwarna perang tu tiada hubungan langsung dengan tumbuhan lain dan saya tidak pasti itu adalah fungus...both of the plants have a diffrent ways for growth
Oh, thx for the update...could it be a symbiotic relationship between an earthball fungus with the growing plant? Is the brown mass on top a fungus at all?
Hi, Khairin... this spotting really intrigued me....my hometown's in Keningau... ko jumpa ni tumbuhan di tanah yg sdh kna teroka ka? I mean, does it grow on disturbed soil?
hy julio .. I've been watching this plant almost three weeks and this is the result .. although not Corpse flower but the plant is unique because it has a soft stem and have no branches also there are interesting patterns that can be seen..This plant reaches a height of 10 feet and this plant can be eaten here..
I think Chicquita is right about Amorphophallus. This looks like a tuber that's been unearthed and landed an upside down. The roots grow from around the stem shoot so it should grow OK. If it does happen to be A.titanum, your nose is safe as there's no way it's going to flower, it's way way too small. Could well be another species though. Looking forward to seeing a shot of the leaf or flower if possible...
If it is true Corpse Flower, don't forget to wear a mask. Believe me, it STINKS!!!! Ha ha ... good luck in capturing the flower, it happens quite quick.
