Field Notes

Description:

Early on in my career as a Butterfly Chaser, I found this very odd and dull Black Swallowtail. Most of the others I have encountered were shiny and beautiful. Is it the sun's position or a different kind of swallowtail.

Habitat:

Meadow in the Poconos

Notes:

Only one photo from a short distance.

Species ID Suggestions

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail female (mostly dark phase)

Papilio glaucus
