Field Notes

Description:

There was a freeze, killing all of the soft farm veggie vines. These butterfly weeds are still green, but covered in yellow and black and some brown bugs. They appeared to be 2cm to 4 cm wide and 4cm to 5 cm long. They were round and others were more oblong - like a tick. They appeared to all be plugged in to a spine or a vein of the underside of a leaf. They would move around like a wiggle but they weren't crawling all over the place. They stayed attached even in the windy conditions.

Habitat:

My butterfly weed - after the first freeze.

Well they are loving my butterfly weed...all over them - double and triple parked if they were cars.
Haha - yes, well unfortunately I had a good sized colony of these too so I recognized them straight away! :)
I wonder if I should go buy some ladybugs from the garden center....
KarenL - that has to be the fastest ID I've ever gotten from the community. I didn't see any ladybugs sadly.
A feast for your ladybugs!
