I'm living on the mainland now Umaporn so don't go across to Samui very often. Have lots of new places to explore here, it's very exciting!
@ VivBraznell If you walk across mountain from north side Meanam beach to the south part get down to Kunaram Temple there very close to water namuang 2 most highest waterfall on samui... trekking to the top there we have a lot of this kind of orchid. it blossom on Aug.
I never went to the waterfalls Umaporn. I used to walk with firends every Wednesday. Walks included Lamai to Maenam. Maenam to Nathon. Maenam to Ban Makham. Maenam to Ban Tai . Most walks took us between 4-5 hours. Saw quite a few butterflies, very few birds and some snakes.
@ craigwilliams I love wild orchid..but I really don't know the name of them so much
You seem to have a wonderful knowledge of your island's plants Umaporn!
It was a native of Koh Samui who gave me this piece so it could very well have come from the mountains in Koh Samui Umaporn & Craig. I used to walk up in the mountains a lot when I lived on the island but I never saw any orchids. Where on the island does it grow Umaporn please? The perfume is wonderful and this could very well be one of the parents. It certainly looks and sounds very similar to the one mentioned in the forum Craig
Could be Dendrobium crumenatum: http://orchids.wikia.com/wiki/Dendrobium_crumenatum
This has been puzzling me for a while Viv. The closest I found (which may well be exactly what you have is a Dendrobium hybrid called Spring Frolic: http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchidtalk/cattleyas-vandas-dendrobiums-bloom/4673-den-spring-frolic.html Haven't had any luck finding out what the parents are for sure, as it could be you have one of the species used to make it. Does it smell like orange blossom as the lady on the forum says?
