Limenitis archippus

Glad I could help with the ID. As to your other question - while monarchs, like many species, are suffering from habitat loss and the effects of climate change, they are not officially endangered... though their numbers are definitely declining. Learn more about threats to the population and how you can help here: http://monarchwatch.org/waystations/
Also, I heard the Monarchs were going extinct. And I thought I was seeing them everywhere though, and it was actually these I saw. Any knowledge about the Monarchs status?
Cool thanks! I'm always learning and love being in contact on here with people are are so knowledgable. Thanks for all your suggestions :)
This is a really tricky ID to make in the field unless you're familiar with them, but this is definitely a Viceroy butterfly, because of the black line across the lower wing. The Viceroy mimics the monarch for protection.
