Antlion
Myrmeleon formicarius
60.5494, 12.2032
Field Notes
Description:
Antlions are very rear in Norway due to lost habitats, this is the first time I have ever spotted anyone.
The larva dig holes in the ground and eat ants and other small insects wich fall into it. Imago resembles dragonfly(Nymphidae)
Are belived to be one of the insects of norway that are most threatened by extinction.
Habitat:
Dry and sandy areas(not neccesarily), grasslands, in open areas of southern coasts and eastern forests of Norway.
Notes:
They are believed to be extinct from most areas of the southern coasts of Norway, and there are only two species in Norway which makes me believe this is one that is common for the inland. The area I spotted it was abundant with them. This was as gold for me to ever be in contact with such a rare species, I'm happy to be part of this movement and I will continue seeking out the wildlife of this world.
