Pink Trumpet Tree
Handroanthus impetiginosus
-27.508, 153.018
Field Notes
Description:
A South American species, this is a deciduous (or sometimes semi-deciduous) tree. Spectacular in spring when the tree is leafless and covered in large clusters of pink frilly flowers, and there is a carpet of pink on the ground. Same family as the Jacaranda - Bignoniaceae. Harvested for its timber, and also has medicinal uses. It is the national tree of Paraguay, but also grows very well in Australia's subtropical climate.
Habitat:
These trees were spotted in a local park in suburban Brisbane. They are very popular as park and street tree plantings, as are the Jacaranda's.
