Field Notes

Description:

Red eyes and face, brown thorax, red abdomen, and red pterostigma near all four wingtips. Body is approximately 1.5 - 2" in length. Astounding to see dragonflies so late in the year -- completely unexpected!

Habitat:

Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntley/
