Description:

Very dark black with sucking mouth parts. (20 -25 mm) 3/4 - 1 inch.

Habitat:

Meadow in the Poconos

They're in the same order, Hemiptera, and the same suborder: Heteroptera. So yeah, they're related. It's tough to tell them apart from the assassin bugs sometimes, they share a lot of morphological similarities.
I thought it was an assassin bug at first. R they at all related? I hope you find the photos. I will check out your wheel bugs. Please see mine also. The first time I saw one I couldn't believe my eyes.
I'll need to go back through my pictures from this summer, I may have found this species or a similar one.
