Field Notes

Description:

Large creamy white mushroom - approx 8" across with a stipe of 4".

Habitat:

Pacific temperate rain forest beside the Reservoir Trail at Hayward Lake. Fir, Hemlock, Bigleaf Maple with a few Red Alder. Under story of Sword fern and Oregon grape.

Wow, this is a cool mushroom! from the underneath, it looks like a totally different mushroom than from the top! I'll let you know if I find anything like it.
Disagree. All the sources say it is found in europe and is rare. Also the stem is much much thicker than your photo shows. I will agree however, that finding a white bolete that is red underneath is difficult
It's in the bolete family... beyond that, I'm stumped.
