Description:

1 1/2 inch cocoon of some type. From branch to bottom of case is 4 1/4 inches. Hard "shell". Looks to be made from natural materials.

I don't recognize the tree. But I will take more photos tomorrow. No leaves.
What species of tree did you find it on? Luna & Polyphemus have different host plants!
Wow, if it is the Luna Moth, very very exciting, even if it is another silk moth. Cool!~ It could be Polyphemus Moth Cocoon which looks the same basically. Thanks Karen. It isn't too far from the house.
It was made from natural materials. Very cool spotting!
