Field Notes

Description:

Type of violet endemic to the Allchar region in southern Macedonia. Blossoms during the spring and early summer period, having flowers in two colours: violet and white. Usually grows about 20 cm in height.

Habitat:

Grows in meadow ecosystems, the soil of the typical habitat is rich with different heavy metals of which the arsenic is the most abundant one.

Notes:

It is believed that this type of violets is a hyper-accumulator of arsenic.
