Description:

I'm wondering if this is the honey mushroom?

Species ID Suggestions

Yes, it is the honey fungus, but I would suggest Armillaria tabescens, because of the thick stem and darker shade color.
Me too. It's basically been on my "want to see and ID" list for three years. My local mushroom mentor has been kind of scarce recently, although I sometimes run into him in the woods
Awww but they are ery ephemeral, I hope that you find more ;)
Now I wish I'd picked some. I was out after hedgehogs, mind you and got myself a nice haul. But still..... Maybe I'll go back Saturday. We're supposed to have a break in the weather
Probably is an Armillaria!!!
Looks like it. They vary quite a bit, but those scales in the center, the ring, the white gills, and the dark lower stem are characteristic--as well as growing on wood.
