Field Notes

Description:

A nymph of an unidentified planthopper species.

Habitat:

This spotting on a coconut palm in a large semi-urban yard & garden located beside a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest.

Notes:

The nymph is quite small. An indication of size can be deduced by its position within a single leaf of an immature-coconut palm frond.

Yes they seem to be. Did you see the new one today from Costa Rica? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7907492
Seems like those tail are a common trait in the planthopper family.
Could be. See also http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7077253 and http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7513507
So I believe that this is a planthopper too http://wongchunxing.blogspot.com/2010/09/strange-white-creature.html
These structures are found on the nymphs of several planthopper species.
For a second, I thought that it's abdomen is the head because that long structure looks like antennas.
