Field Notes
Description:
This is an egg that belonged to a species of dove, but I can't remember which species! I was surprised by the location of the egg - it was in the mud in a ditch in Louisiana. I saw the dove fly away and then pretend to be injured to draw me away from the nest. Does anyone know of dove behavior that fits this description? I had never seen doves do this before.
Habitat:
sugar cane, soy beans, and rye grass fields
