Description:

Shells flat on the back

Species ID Suggestions

Cat's Eye shell

Turbo petholatus (probably)

Comments (1)

These "cats eyes" are the trapdoors (operculums) of certain univalve molluscs, particularly turban shells and moon shels. The operculum covers the opening when the mollusc is exposed and protects it from drying out or being eaten. The shiny side is on the inside and the other flat side is white or brown.
