Ursula I did not study the mushroom closely, but the stalk/stem seems smoother and unblemished in comparison the descriptions and images of the species you located, and outside their reported range. I suspect that I spotted something else. However, I cannot be certain one way or the other since I have no credentials in the field (my daughter does). Specifically, I am not sure how much variation in appearance exists within a species--think of the wide variation in appearance among Homo sapiens. In addition, I'm not sure whether my flash went off (it doesn't look like it did), and if it did whether it bleached out any details.
It looks a bit like this one (http://www.mushroomexpert.com/macrolepiota_procera.html), only on your picture it doesn't have ring around it, so it could be poisonous. Did it look like this: http://www.nifg.org.uk/species/photos/Macrolepiota_procera5.jpg or like this: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/lepiota_clypeolaria.html
