Field Notes

Description:

A highly invasive, nonmigratory species of dove. Pinkish/Brown color with a conspicuous neck collar and a thin eyering. This bird is an introduced species that has spread from Florida west to California, and north to Alaska and Nova Scotia. Eurasian Collared Doves are claimed to extirpate populations of Mourning Doves in some areas, and many people hold negative feelings towards them. However, I have seen no decline of Mourning Doves in my area and am charmed by this beautiful bird.

Habitat:

Urban

the bird is beautiful and in there natural range ,no problem, but in certains places (the most part i presume) his strongly invasive.i'am not against bio globalization, but it´s a very dangerous business.i talk because in portugal,a litle country there several problems of invasive plantes and animals, i imagine that in big countries like america, india,china,etc...the problem is bigest.very dificul to solve this problem only with education and some legislation it can be minorated(?)because i think it's a problem whith no solution, men allways wiil transport plants and animals between continents for good and for bad
I agree António, where we live there are a lots of these doves. Nowadays is not easy to find an European Turtle Dove, which is the displaced species.
Yes, I love their song. And I don't think they're very invasive in their natural range.
We have the same bird here in Norway but we don't have problems with that dove that I know.... Here I live we have 4 Eurasian Collared Doves that i have seen... It's a very beautiful bird and it have a nice song
That's quite sad. It's such a beautiful bird. Thank you for sharing, Antonio.
