Field Notes

Description:

A smallish, bold gull that is fairly common in the UK. Usually seen in groups, very noisy and fight among themselves a lot! In the summer, they have a chocolate brown head, but at this time of the year, there is only a little dark smudge behind the eye.

Habitat:

Found along coasts, rivers, estuaries, and very common inland also.

Notes:

There was a large group of these gulls floating on the lakes at the University of Essex campus, this one came particularly close and let me take a nice portrait!

Lovely shots Laura. I have seen some guys recently in India, they are fun to watch.
Thanks very much Darwin :) I think we get around 10 different species, not including the rare vagrants that sometimes make their way out here. This guy is by far the most common of our gulls!
You've a nice selection of Gull pix to your credit. Not so easy to get. i'd be interested to know the number of Gull Species hanging around Great Britain ? thank you,
Thanks Luc! It was quite lucky really, the sun was in the right spot, and so was the bird :) I was just there at the right time haha!
What beautiful lighting, this is what I find hardest to do in photography. Very nice picture
Thank you Sachin :) I think they're adorable at this time of year
