Field Notes

Description:

Decomposing mammal leg and foot.

Habitat:

Was in open field that was originally sheltered from a trailer but was recently moved. It was about 23 meters away from skull spotting.

Notes:

We have coyotes that run along the property line quite often and we hear them eating late at night. Yikes!

I was wondering if it was from the same animal! Well there you go, cat it is!
Hi Emily, unfortunately I didn't measure it and it's now gone. I found a skull nearby and it's currently getting cleaned by beetles. It's looking more and more like a large domestic cat!
At first I thought this was canine, but now I am second guessing myself and thinking it is feline remains. If you could provide the approximate size of the leg bone, that might help to narrow it down! It's obviously a back leg... Looks like the top of the tibia and fibula have been gnawed off right before the knee.
