Field Notes

Description:

An albino Ring-billed Gull on the eastern shore of Jekyll Island (near the shopping complex). A typical Ring-billed Gull at this stage would show pale gray wings, black primaries, light head spotting, and yellow legs, bill and iris. This bird's plumage is completely void of color and the bill/leg/iris coloration is pinkish, making it a pure albino bird. It was a fantastic sight to see. At first I had thought it was an Ivory Gull (Pagophila eburnea), which would be extremely rare in Georgia (our first record bird dying of lung infection last year).

Spotting updated.
Quite a special bird. :)
I've always wondered what an albino seagull would look like, now I know. :)
