Field Notes

Description:

Large black bird, a bit short of 1m in length, with silvery-white throat, greyish bill and bright yellow bill base. Wings tinged bronzy. White patch on thighs signify the bird is in its early breeding/courtship season.

Habitat:

Seen on a small lake at the base of Jura mountain range, at Divonne-les-bains. Outskirts of urban setting, but maintained lake and park around; still very close to protected forest and marshes area. Area just in between the Jura mountains and Geneva lake (Leman).
