Field Notes

Description:

This snake eel is distinctive because of its relatively large, yellow spots across its entire body. It feeds on small fish and invertebrates, and grows to a length of about 35cm. Also known as Large-spotted Snake Eel.

Habitat:

Found singly, usually buried in the sand or rubble near coral reefs, with just the head showing. It can be found across the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

Spotted this eel at a depth of about 40 feet, off the coast of Talikud Island (dive site: Dayang Beach).
