Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized tree, rough dark grey bark, smallish soft 'sprays' of dull green-grey leaves.
A very slow growing, low density, highly water and fungus resistant, light golden coloured timber.

Habitat:

Cool wet climate, usually along river banks, among other species.

Notes:

Unique to Tasmania, Australia. A beautiful and was a much sought after timber especially for boat building as it is highly stable, light and very resistant to water based pathogens due to it's natural oils. Luckily it is now protected species as it takes many hundreds of year to grow to useful size. The specimens in existence are mostly malformed and were therefore lucky to miss the cut. My favourite tree.
