Field Notes

Description:

This was a small sized Silvertip Shark - Carcharhinus albimarginatus, around 1 - 1.5 meters. There were a few of them and were very sneaky. If I am looking at one of them in front of me, there is always 1 or 2 sneaking up behind me. But it was fun diving with them coming at me from time to time :D

Thanks, @Neil. In general, most Sharks tends to be sneaky and if they are after you, its likely from under or from behind. This way, they takes their prey by surprise with better success rate and they spends less energy getting food. The Sharks we saw on this dive were mostly swimming around, didn't really see them in hunting mode or going after food/prey in particular.
That is a beautiful shark. I know that great white's have a tendency to strike from behind. Is that a common trait with shark species in general, do you know? 2nd pic the pectoral fins are low. Was this shark hunting?
