Description:

Mottled looper catterpilar with lateral yellow stripe

Habitat:

Feeding on Swamp gum.

Notes:

This caterpillar is polyphagous, feeding on any of 17 different plants, including being a serious pest of the introduced pine, from which it gets its name. The survive very poorly on the pine host and this behavior is therefore puzzling.

Yes, I never saw this larva before and want to grow it out to find its adult form. Happily for it, it escaped.
