Description:

The Common Myna is readily identified by the brown body, black hooded head and the bare yellow patch behind the eye. The bill and legs are bright yellow. There is a white patch on the outer primaries and the wing lining on the underside is white. The sexes are similar and birds are usually seen in pairs.

Phew! Thanks for agreeing AG - thought I might be imagining things. Maybe the Aussie ones are becoming something else already. Evolutionarily wonderful !!

I agree Argy, it seems if you compare the two the ones in Australia seem to have lost the white patch on the wings almost entirely in some cases!

Good photo. These birds are becoming very common and a problem around Melbourne, Australia. They are too successful and causing native species to disappear. Interestingly, when in India 10 months ago, I was certain the Indian version looked somehow different. Couldn't put my finger on it but it might be interesting to check for differences.
