An Orb Weaver wrapping her Prey
16.7131, -92.6127
Field Notes
Description:
A tiny Orb Weaver of about 4 mm in body length had captured a small Scarab beetle and had begun to wrap it in silk. She was very fast. In the few seconds that I took a series of pictures she had noticeably covered the beetle with silk. In the first two pictures you can see she is using 2 threads of silk, one from each spinneret and positioning the strands with her feet.
Habitat:
On a garden wall, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
