Field Notes

Description:

These fish are in very shallow water and are 5 to 7 inches long but larger individuals are seen in the deeper water. Some have subtle stripes and some are more pronounced. Most have a lighter yellow color though some are darker. Their tails and fin tips are red no matter what their body color. There seems to be a blue gill as well. Some sort of sunfish perhaps?

Habitat:

In an inland fresh-water canal.

Notes:

The second photo, though it cuts off the fish's head, shows its body and tail the best and shows the most common color of these fish. I have seen photos of sunfish/bream/bluegills in Florida but none have the striping and the fin and tail shape and color like these. The ones in these photos are the smaller ones, and there are about 20 more that stay in the deeper water.
