Field Notes

Description:

Habitat:

Growing on the stump of a coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) in a large semi-urban yard and garden bordered on one side by a disturbed patch of remnant forest.

Notes:

The sori (sing. sorus), clusters of sporangia (structures producing and containing spores), are clearly visible on the fern frond. (See http://www2.puc.edu/Faculty/Gilbert_Muth/art0048.jpg )

This fern is anchored to the stump with the same type of rooting structure as depicted in this spotting of another fern that shares the same stump http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7901267 See the 3rd photo.
