Epidendrum ellipticum
8.64188, -71.1066
Field Notes
Description:
A lilac-color orchid known locally in the Andes as "Vara de San José" (Saint Joseph's cane). It grows in rocks and trees. Blooming occurs in the tip of long canes, forming an elliptic group of tiny flowers. This species is very resistant. Each cane blooms once. Flowers can last for months. When flowers start to fade, new branches grow out from the center of the leaves, and sometimes from mature canes.
Habitat:
Mérida, Venezuela.
Notes:
I have seen them in white as well.
