Field Notes

Description:

Necroscia pallida - a small green stick insect (Phasmida) with a body length of about 35 mm / 3.5 cm.
It seems to own a pair of wings that is neatly folded on it's abdomen.
It did not displayed it's wings though.
It's fully grown wings indicate that it isn't young anymore.

Habitat:

Plants of Kinabalu National Park, Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 300m diameter. Another species of walking stick that I spotted in Kinabalu park.
This species is a new spotting for me.

Thanks for the helpful information, next time I will try taking photographs of it's abdomen. Which part of the abdomen shows the gender differences? The front, the tip or the whole? There is a stick insect I spotted nearby with a swollen abdomen tip, is this what you meant by "bump" ? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7753083

A photo of the abdomen will be useful for gender determination. Males have a bump pointing downwards, containing a spermatophore. Males also have typically larger wings and longer antennae but not always. Based on these observations and its narrow abdomen, I would say male. Most of our smaller species are in the genera Sipyloidea and Candovia and they occur in Asia too. You will have other possibilities.
