Description:

I think this guy/gal came out of the trees to search for a suitable site to burrow into the soil for pupation. During this time they may undergo a slight color change, become shortened, and are known as prepupae

Habitat:

Imperial Moth's caterpillars eat the foliage of pines, oaks, Box Elder, maples, Sweet Gum and Sassafras --"Adults do not feed."
