Dakduif, checked out the net for knapweed. I think we are definitely getting closer! The flowers look really similar, but the leaves still don't look correct. Check out this article:

Think i'll check through my other spottings. A couple of those might be knapweed also!
Dakduif, Looked into knapweeds, and the flower seems to match, but the leaves seem different than those mentioned in this article...

but I think we are getting closer.
Will take a closer look at a couple of my other postings in case they are also knapweed, not thistle.
Ok, in that case I think I've seen a picture of it somewhere.
Yeah, cornflowers are related, but I think this is a knapweed. Either Common or Spotted knapweed but neither seem to have the exact same flower or the same, really fluffy and prickly flower base. Close enough though. :P
Dakduif, I think all the pictures are of the same plant. Anyway, I took them together. 2 & 3 show an just opened bud, and an old flower like you thought. I always thought cornflowers were blue, interesting that these are pinkish...
Well, THIS is a member of Centaurea. :P Read all about them here: http://eol.org/pages/59386/overview/
Again, couldn't find the right one.
Also, from second and third picture: are those two different species or is one flower almost wilted while the other only just bloomed?
