Field Notes

Description:

Family: Nymphalidae Subfamily: Danainae (Milkweed butterfly) Female. Wingspan up to 102 mm (4 inches) or more. Upper side is tawny orange. Veins and margins are black. In margins are small white spots.

Habitat:

Meadow on property

Notes:

I was fortunate to photograph around 14 Monarchs this season which got a late start with the first one spotted on August 26, 2013. About 1/2 and 1/2 male and female. (Last photo of the Monarch with Banded Garden Spider - Argiope trifasciata)
