Field Notes

Description:

Small moth of Crambidae family.
Identification: Forewing narrow, rounded at tip, brown with fine grayish brown veins and streaks. Heaviest markings are large grayish brown orbicular, claviform, and reniform spots and curved midsection of pm. line. Hindwing lighter, unmarked. Wing span: 2.4-3.5 cm.

Habitat:

Caterpillar Hosts: Wide variety of low plants such as celery, grasses, Polygonum species, and sweet clover.

Notes:

Spotted in the meadow beyond our garden.
