@ Nicholas,this did not drop from a tree. My feeling is that some fruit was eaten and this pod left behind. Could be a mango tree?

Have you ever eaten a mango? A mango can have a large seed pod. However this large seed pod has only one large seed. We usually roast this seed in the oven and eat it.

I would consider a tropical soil mix..(Store bought) which tends to drain well.. large pot with gravel on the bottom and plant the seed with the sprout facing up.. Just cover the seeds loosely with the soil.. water yourself sparingly, since the seeds have all the moisture they need to germinate in them.. that's why they are that large.. (for most plants)..Leave the sprout just proud of the soil.. heat and light is paramount and keep it away from rain storm water.. Its not the exact thing to do, but its a good start. Regards,
