Description:

Sporocarps gregarious or crowded, sessile or with a short, stout, black stalk, rarely subplasmodiocarpous. Sporotheca shining yellow, globose, obovoid or somewhat elongate, 0.5-0.9 mm wide. Peridium membranous. Hypothallus broadly expanded, inconspicuous. Capillitium of simple or rarely branched elaters, 3-5 µm diam., bearing 2(-3) irregular spiral bands, these prominent and in places remote, the apices often swollen behind the conical tip. Spore-mass yellow to orange-yellow. Spores dull pale yellow, verruculose, 12-14 µm diam. Plasmodium white

Notes:

SPORANGIA: Globose, obovoid, or turbinate, 0.6 to 0.9 mm. diam., sessile, short-stalked, or forming short plasmodiocarps, crowded or scattered, ochraceous yellow or olivaceous, often forming large colonies.

PERIDIUM: Membranous, pale yellow, marked with ring-shaped or crescentic thickenings.

STALK: 0.1 to 0.5 mm. high, thick, black, furrowed.

CAPILLITIUM: Of cylindrical ochraceous yellow elaters 3-5 ju diam., tapering shortly at the ends and terminating in curved points, marked with two well-defined spiral bands which are more prominent on one side of the elater than on the other.

NOTES: This species is clearly distinguished from every other one of the genus by the two spiral bands on the elaters, which are prominent, and more so on one side.

SPORES: Ochrace ous yellow, minutely warted,
11 - 16 µm diam.

PLASMODIUM: White

HABITAT: On dead wood.

DISTRIBUTION: Cosmopolitan

hi shebebusynow. i also have no luck with my tries to hold a slime mold in the aquarium/moist-chamber (till now). what yellow slime mold had you tried : fuligo septica or physarum polycephalum ( http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&cp=21&gs_id=2&xhr=t&q=physarum+polycephalum&safe=off&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1201&bih=594&wrapid=tljp132303866093500&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=1PfbTs6eN42YOvLv9cgO ), when i get my hands on him (physarum [labyrinth-slime mold]) i will try everything i can to cultivate him. he will get well feeded here. my spotting,this particular slime mold have i seen often (but then i was unaware it was a slime mold) , wikipedia and some other site say, from the fam: trichia is it one of the most common slime molds to find here. i got some infos and pdf i want to share with you, maybe it will help you by you next cultivating-try. (i have succesfully cultivated : psilocybe cubensis at home but slime mold is an other world). I tried really hard to keep a yellow slime mold alive, but it didn't like being in a clean, dry environment, even for a little while. Even after putting it into a compost heap, it wouldn't revive. Have you seen this particular species more than once?
