Field Notes

Description:

"Dendrobium is a huge genus of orchids; today it contains about 1,200 species. The genus occurs in diverse habitats throughout much of south, east and southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Borneo, Australia, New Guinea, Solomon Islands and New Zealand. The name is from the Greek dendron ("tree") and bios ("life"); it means "one who lives on trees", or, essentially, "epiphyte". Dendrobium species are either epiphytic, or occasionally lithophytic. They have adapted to a wide variety of habitats, from the high altitudes in the Himalayan mountains to lowland tropical forests and even to the dry climate of the Australian desert."

Habitat:

Growing in a large semi-urban yard & garden. Tropical climate.

Notes:

This photo series shows development of these orchid blossoms from 18-30 November 2011. This is an ornamental plant. Appearance of flower similar to D. anosmum http://www.orchidspecies.com/denanosmum.htm

Thanks David & Craig. Dendrobium is such a large and diverse genus. The flower is indeed is very similar to D. anosmum.
The flowers and canes look like Dendrobium anosmum but that blooms from all the nodes of the leafless canes and this one is more spaced out, so not too sure. http://www.orchidspecies.com/denanosmum.htm
