A large caterpillar with a distinct horn on its abdomen.

In the vegetable garden near the woods.

This is actually a tobacco hornworm, not a tomato hornworm. They look very similar, but the tomato hornworm has V-shaped marks, while the tobacco has straight lines.
That's a solid looking creature - please keep away from my tomatoes. Nice photo thanks David.
