Field Notes

Description:

Small brownish birds with short, pointy beaks and a penchant for standing on one leg.

Habitat:

These birds alternated between the sand on the beach - usually chasing the tide back and forth as they dug in the surf for food - and the giant estuary behind the peninsula that filled at high tide and ran nearly dry at low tide.
