Field Notes

Description:

We found this at the beach with my students today. It seems to be some sort of arthropod but couldn´t tell nor observe it well. Also, it seemed dead so it didn´t move which made it harder to try to identify while all the children looked at it, did their work and I took care of them.

Thank you very much Marijn. We found this one at one of the River Plate`s beaches, in Montevideo, Uruguay. The River Plate is actually an estuary so maybe the presence of brackish water explains why we found it there. Greetings

Hemiptera; Nepidae For example something like Ranatra linearis looks similar to the picture, but I have no idea of what species it actually is. Also, I think it is kind of strange to find one of these on the beach, as there probably aren't any living in the salty water of the sea, which might explain why it is dead.
