Field Notes

Description:

It measures nearly two meters long from tip of snout to tail (the specimen of the photo is roughly 1,5 m - 5 ft long). The tail of the tegu is larger than his body, and is used as a weapon functioning as a whip. Painful lashes gives to his enemies, but one bite of this lizard can also hurt.

Habitat:

The tegu lizard is the largest in South America and quite common, even in areas already explored by man, prefer to live in the hole and live in cottages and villas, near the houses to take advantage of leftovers, of which it feeds. Charged with invading to steal chicken eggs, the interior is largely hunted and their meat is reputed to be good, much like the chicken.
