Field Notes

Description:

1 1/4 inch moth with legs outstretched. Also called Ipsillion Dart and Dark Sword Grass. Adults feed on nectar of flowers. Beautiful intricate design of "tear drops" and daggers/swords. Very active moth today. Temps were fairly nice in 50's.

Habitat:

Strangely I looked on the porch for it again, but no where in sight. I was taking photos of another moth when it came flying right to me landing besides me. I took some amazing photos of it posing for me first and then walking up the house wall.

I can't see the feathery antennae in your other spotting but maybe they are just hidden by the pattern on the wings.

It was so friendly! I was taking so many photos, but it was in the shade and dark area. Using flash, but many were blurry. But got at least 5 good ones.

Looks like you have found a mate (this is a male judging by his antennae) for the female you found yesterday!
